It’s gotten to the point in the fashion world where the first thing associated with the month of May is the Met Gala. On the first Monday in May, New York City’s renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts their annual Met Gala, an event to raise money for the museum’s Costume Institute. Since the first ever Met Gala in 1948, the event has transformed into a night watched by the world. In a sense, it’s the Super Bowl of fashion: anxiously awaited for months, predictions called on who will attend and what designer they will wear, and who will “win” the night. This year’s gala theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, proved to be one of faceted dimensions, in both criticism and praise. From Rihanna arriving in a $15,000 custom beaded Margiela mini dress, cape, and bishop’s hat taking the theme very literally to Blake Lively flirting with the theme in a 600-hour handiwork custom gown by Versace with Christian Louboutin as her date for the evening, there was no shortage of glamour. Here are just some of the best style motifs of the night.
